More iPhone SE models on their way, report claims

Apple has only recently launched the 2020 iPhone SE, and now according to a report, the company wants to further expand this lineup with the addition of new models.

In other words, the iPhone SE itself becomes a series of several iPhones, and in addition to the current iPhone SE, Apple might also be planning to launch other variants rather sooner than later.

A report coming from Chinese website GizChina indicates that Apple is planning to launch a larger version of the iPhone SE, tentatively called iPhone SE Plus, later this year, possibly alongside the 2020 iPhone generation coming in the fall.

This isn’t the first time when we’re hearing that Apple wants to also release a larger iPhone SE, and previously, it’s been rumored that the device could be based on the iPhone 8 Plus. iPhone SE itself uses the body of the iPhone 8, so a larger version based on the Plus would more or less make sense.

Referred to as iPhone SE 2 Plus, this new model would still feature a fingerprint sensor, but the cited source claims that a side-mounted reader is more likely.

2021 iPhone SE 3

And at the same time, it looks like an iPhone SE 3 is also in the works as an evolution of the iPhone SE launched this year. The new model could go live in 2021, the report claims.

It goes without saying that everything here is still in the rumor stage, so you really shouldn’t take anything for granted, especially because some information doesn’t seem to align with Apple’s strategy. For example, the side-mounted fingerprint sensor is something very unlikely to happen on an iPhone SE, as it would require Apple to redesign the internals of the device.

If it’s based on the iPhone 8 Plus, the larger iPhone SE should come with a front-facing fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button.
