We reported earlier that Canonical finally decided on a release date for the next major software update of its Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system, OTA-10, due for release on April 6, 2016.

Today, April 4, 2016, Ubuntu developer Olivier Tilloy reports on the major new features that have been implemented in the Web Browser app of the Ubuntu mobile OS, which will be pushed to Ubuntu Phone users on April 6 as part of the OTA-10 software update.

According to Mr. Tilloy, it appears that there are several convergence features in the updated Web Browser app, such as keyboard navigation support for all the views in the phone layout, and single-instance support when running it on desktop mode.

"The browser is now a single-instance app on desktop: invoking it in a terminal with a URL will raise the existing window and open a new tab instead of launching another instance of the app," explained Olivier Tilloy.

Moreover, the bottom edge hint will now be transformed into a clickable bottom edge bar when a mouse is connected to the converged device running the latest Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 operating system.

It's now possible to select, copy, and paste web content

Another interesting and highly anticipated feature that landed for the Ubuntu Touch Web Browser app is a touch selection controller that lets users select, copy, and paste web content.

Finally, video-specific actions like "Open video in new tab" or "Save video" have been added to the context menu, the "Allow opening new tabs in background" setting has been dropped, and some memory usage improvements were added as well.

More details about the new features implemented in the soon-to-be-released OTA-10 update for Ubuntu Touch will be revealed here later today, so make sure that you keep an eye on our Linux news section.
