Ubuntu MATE 15.10 (Wily Werewolf), a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu that's using the beautifully crafted MATE desktop environment, has been released and is now available for download.

Unlike its big brother, the regular Ubuntu distribution, the MATE flavor packs quite a punch. Its developers are always making big changes and improvements to the distribution and the current iterations are proof of that. The Ubuntu MATE team has distinguished itself by adding new important features in each new version, and they continue to offer a lot of surprises to its users.

It's also worth noting that the makers of Ubuntu MATE are also taking into consideration the suggestions made by the community and they usually implement them if they are worth it. For example, the community is the reason why the distribution now also comes with the Compiz window manager.

Ubuntu MATE 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) is here

"Ubuntu MATE is a community developed Ubuntu-based operating system that beautifully integrates the MATE Desktop and offers a stable, easy-to-use operating system with a configurable desktop environment. Ideal for those who want the most out of their computers and prefer a traditional desktop metaphor. With modest hardware requirements, it is suitable for modern desktops and laptops, micro-computers and older hardware alike. Ubuntu MATE is an official member of the Ubuntu family," note the developers.

The 15.10 version of Ubuntu MATE is the first one to drop the Software Center, which caused quite a stir. A new tool named Ubuntu MATE Welcome took its place, and it looks like it was a really good decision. Also, the MATE 1.10 desktop environment has been integrated by default, update-manager -d and do-release-upgrade -d are now supported to upgrade from Ubuntu MATE 15.04 to Ubuntu MATE 15.10, the MATE Optimus, a utility for switching between GPUs on NVIDIA Prime capable hardware, has been added, and the MATE Tweak tools has been upgraded as well.

Developers have also upgraded Blueman 2.0 and BlueZ 5.35, the Ubuntu MATE Plymouth boot animation has been improved, the default application handlers have been refined, the support for iOS devices is much better, and many more other changes and fixes have been implemented.

This is just a small part of what's changed in Ubuntu MATE 15.10. You can download the latest version of Ubuntu MATE from Softpedia and give it a spin. Also, make sure that you read the entire release notes below.
