GNU/Linux developer Arne Exton released today a new version of his Ubuntu-based LFA (Linux For All) GNU/Linux distribution that brings updated components, as well as new apps and tools.

LFA (Linux For All) Build 191111 is now available to download based on Canonical's latest Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS (Bionic Beaver) operating system, but shipping with a much newer kernel, namely Linux 5.4 RC6. As such, LFA is one of the first distros to adopt the upcoming Linux 5.4 kernel series.

LFA (Linux For All) Build 191111 is not just an update to previous releases of the Ubuntu-based GNU/Linux distribution, but a total rebuild that now uses packages from the latest Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Support) release instead of those used in the latest Ubuntu Linux release.

"The system is based on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS and Debian. It’s a total rebuild. I.e. nothing is left of the old LFA system," said Arne Exton. "Why Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS? Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is supported until April 2023. Ubuntu 19.10 is supported until July 2020 only."

What's new in LFA (Linux For All) Build 191111

Highlights of the LFA (Linux For All) Build 191111 release include the latest Nvidia 440.31 proprietary graphics driver, Google Chrome as default web browser, which supports Netflix and bookmark support from your Gmail account, and TeamViewer for controlling your Windows computers from LFA or vice versa.

Another interesting feature included in this new LFA (Linux For All) release is Refracta tools, more specifically Refracta Snapshot, which lets users create their own live and installable Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS ISO image once they've installed the operating system on their personal computer.

LFA (Linux For All) Build 191111 ships with the lightweight LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) by default and up-to-date packages from Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS (Bionic Beaver).
