Although it was shown earlier this month at Ubisoft Forward with a release timeframe of 2022, Skull and Bones have been pushed into 2023, the French developer announced today. Since the game is done, the extra time will be used to further polish and balance the mechanics and the overall gameplay experience using players’ feedback.

Ahoy there, privateers. Our team is hard at work polishing and balancing the experience ahead of the worldwide launch. As a result, we’ve made the tough decision to move our release date to March 9, 2023. We’re very eager for you all to get your hands on Skull and Bones and dive in headfirst to the dangerous and exciting world of building your own pirate empire. To give you the best possible experience we’ve decided to take a little more time to make sure we can deliver exactly that.”

Along with the delay announcement, Ubisoft revealed a new release date for Skull and Bones, and that’s quite far away considering the game is done. Skull and Bones will now release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on March 9, 2023.

Truth be told, March 2023 is a much better time frame considering all the big games scheduled to arrive in the first two months of the next year, such as Forspoken, Dead Space Remake, Dead Island 2, Hogwarts Legacy, Wild Hearts, Like a Dragon: Ishin!, Octopath Traveler 2, Destiny 2: Lightfall, and Darkest Dungeon 2.

On the bright side, those who are anxious to play the game will be happy to know that an open beta will be available ahead of the game’s launch, so expect to be able to get your hands on Skull and Bones sometime in late February – early March, if nothing bad happens and the game is delayed again.
