Ubisoft officially revealed Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake two years ago and said that game would be released in January 2021. Unfortunately, the game was delayed in February of the same year that it should have been launched with no release date in sight.

Earlier this month, some retailers decided to delist pre-orders of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, which lead to concerns about the project. Although many have thought Ubisoft outright canceled the remake to put an end to its troubled development cycle, it looks like there’s still hope for fans of the franchise.

In a statement for IGN, an Ubisoft spokesperson said that it has decided to delay the game again and shift the development from the Mumbai studio to Ubisoft Montreal: “the development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal. We’re proud of the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learnings as the new team will continue the work to deliver a great remake.”

Additionally, Ubisoft announced Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake has been further delayed out of FY23, but no timeframe for its release has been confirmed by the French company.

As a consequence, we are no longer targeting a FY23 release anymore, and the game has been delisted. If players wish to cancel their pre-order, they are invited to contact their retailer. They will be updated on the project as the development is moving along.”

With the delay of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, Ubisoft has very little to show this year in terms of new games. The French developer is working on its new Avatar game, which isn’t going to come out this year. Also, another Assassin’s Creed title is very unlikely to be announced for 2022.
