Twitter Blue subscribers can create longer tweets

Twitter has just implemented one of the most requested features: support for longer tweets. The company, however, has decided to go for a maximum length that is, well, surprising, as users can now create tweets of up to 4,000 characters.

That’s way more than the standard 280 chars limit, and at some level, it should prevent users from creating threads that span across several tweets.

Unfortunately for those who have a lot to say, not everybody is getting support for the longer tweets.

Twitter is making this feature exclusive to Twitter Blue subscribers, and for the time being, only those in the United States can try them out.

“Most standard functions of Tweeting still apply, whether you want to post a picture, use a hashtag, or create a poll. but now you can type all the way up to 4,000 characters. for now, longer Tweets on web can't be saved as drafts or scheduled to send later,” Twitter explains in a… long tweet.

“While only Blue subscribers can post longer Tweets, anyone and everyone can read them. you can reply to, retweet, and quote Tweet a longer Tweet, no matter if you’re a Twitter Blue subscriber or not. subscribers will be able to reply and QT with up to 4,000 characters.”

Keeping things organized in the timeline is obviously critical now that longer tweets are making their way to the platform.

And this is precisely why the timeline will continue to show tweets with a limit of 280 characters, and for longer messages, you should see a “Show more” button to expand the post. This approach makes perfect sense because otherwise, longer tweets would involve a lot of scrolling, and this would eventually turn everybody’s timeline into a huge mess.
