A game that really captures the Stranger Things vibes

Echo Generation is one of the indie games revealed during Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase, which is expected to be released in 2021. It's a turn-based adventure game that captures the Stranger Things vibes better than the official game of the show.

Developed by Canadian studio Cococucumber, Echo Generation is about a gang of kids who investigate supernatural occurrences in their small town. Players will complete quests, battle monsters in turn-based fights, level up their heroes while trying to save the town from danger.

The reveal trailer shows gameplay footage, including some turn-based battles. Some of you might be disappointed, but Echo Generation features a card battle system. Also, according to developers, the boss fights feature a mix of real-time and turn-based combat.

As seen in the trailer, Echo Generation features a charming retro art style with a stylized 3D pixel look, but if you're not into this type of visuals, you might want to skip this one. The original soundtrack features electronic and synth-wave music, much like the Stranger Things show.

In Echo Generation, you won't be battling just monsters, but robots as well. There will be no shortage of monsters to fight in the game, the folks at Cococucumber claim, so this sounds like a pretty intense experience.

Although it's one of the few games showing actual gameplay at Xbox Games Showcase, Echo Generation won't be launched this year. Developer Cococucumber says Echo Generation is coming to PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in 2021.

We also know that the game will be available for free to all Xbox Game Pass subscribers at launch. If you're wondering, there's no mention of a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 release, but we'll probably know more closer to release.

Those of you who are into this type of game can wishlist the game on Steam to learn more about Echo Generation, including its launch date.
