The closer we get to the expected early 2019 Samsung Galaxy S10 release, the more details emerge, and according to a new report, the top-of-the-range configuration could boast five different cameras.

We’ve known for a while that Samsung’s future flagship series would include three different models, and now ETNews suggests that the most expensive for them would come with a major camera upgrade.

What Samsung appears to do is follow in Apple’s footsteps and release three phones as part of the Galaxy S10 lineup, one of which would be a mainstream model available at a lower price.

Two of the phones will come with a dual-camera system on the back, just like the existing generation, but the top Samsung Galaxy S10+ will be upgraded to a triple-camera setup. At the same time, it’s expected to boast a dual-camera configuration on the front as well.

This leads us to a phone with five different cameras, though the purpose of the third lens on the back is not yet known. Samsung, however, will continue to invest aggressively in the camera department, especially as the next-generation S flagship celebrates the 10th anniversary of this model.

The fingerprint sensor saga

One question that’s to be answered is whether the S10 would land with a fingerprint sensor integrated into the screen or not.

Earlier reports suggested that this very likely to happen, as Samsung has absolutely no intention to give up on a fingerprint reader, but more recently, it was speculated that the sensor would stay on the back just like on the current generation.

If Samsung indeed switches to a triple-camera configuration on the back, there’s a chance that the fingerprint sensor would actually be integrated into the screen, though this may be a feature exclusively available on the top-of-the-range configuration.

The Galaxy S10 is projected to land in early 2019, possibly in late January, with sales to begin shortly after the unveiling.
