Because it comes with features the iPhone doesn’t have

Ming-Chi Kuo, one of the most reliable Apple analysts, says Samsung’s Galaxy S10 is selling better than anticipated thanks to the new features that the South Korean manufacturer implemented, including the fingerprint sensor embedded into the screen.

In a note to investors, Kuo says he’s increasing shipping estimates for the Galaxy S10 by as much as 30 percent, so he expects Samsung to ship between 40 million and 45 million units.

One of the reasons the Galaxy S10 is so successful is the arsenal of features that the iPhone lacks, such as the fingerprint reader, the triple-camera system, and the reverse wireless charging system.

Furthermore, Kuo says the Galaxy S10 is selling particularly well in China, a market where Apple’s new-generation iPhone struggles, mostly due to the high prices.

Apple all-in on Face ID

However, Apple too is working on a series of upgrades for the iPhone, and a recent forecast released by the analyst indicated that the 2019 lineup could come with a triple-camera system as well. Most likely, this feature would be exclusive to the Max version of the upcoming iPhone.

Rumor had it that Apple itself was interested in bringing Touch ID back with an approach similar to Samsung’s, but for the time being, the Cupertino-based tech giant just seems to be much more focused on improving Face ID rather than resurrecting the fingerprint sensor.

Nevertheless, Kuo believes that the fingerprint scanners are still the preferred option for many customers, and by embedding it into the glass, Samsung made it a much more convenient method to unlock the smartphone.

Samsung is also expected to expand the use of fingerprint readers placed under the glass to more models, with the upcoming Galaxy Note 10 very likely to come with a similar approach. Facial recognition is offered as well on Samsung’s flagships, but it only relies on the front-facing cameras with no 3D sensing tech.
