Concept envisions a new File Explorer design

File Explorer remains an essential app for so many Windows 10 users, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that Microsoft is very keen on improving it.

For example, only small improvements for File Explorer have been included in the most recent Windows 10 feature updates, and the most requested option, support for tabs, is yet to be added.

While Microsoft is clearly taking its time to improve File Explorer, the skilled designers in the community out there come up with all kinds of new ideas to further refine the file manager, and the digital artwork that we’re highlighting today is living proof in this regard.

Next feature update in the fall

Created by Zee-Al-Eid Ahmad Rana, a skilled designer who has already produced some pretty cool Windows 10 concepts, designed a new version of File Explorer whose purpose is to completely change the way we use the built-in file manager, all using a very fresh and modern approach.

The design that we see here is actually based on the Fluent Design language, and it comes with modern-looking context menus that just make sense in Windows 10. As you probably know already, Microsoft truly has a consistency problem, and the company right now isn’t very interested in resolving it.

Not a long time ago, someone has suggested a pretty easy fix, calling for Microsoft to actually expand the use of Microsoft Edge browser context menus to the rest of the operating system.

In the meantime, you shouldn’t expect a new file manager to make its debut in Windows 10 anytime soon. The next feature update for Windows 10 is version 20H2, and it is projected to go live in the fall with only small improvements under the hood and performance refinements. A new major update for Windows 10 is due in the spring of 2020.
