THQ Nordic has been pretty busy lately creating new studios that will bring us even more games. After revealing its new studio Alkimia Interactive will develop the Gothic Remake, THQ Nordic is back in the news with yet another new studio.

Ashborne Games is THQ Nordic's newest studio, which is based in Brno, Czech Republic. The studio consists of veteran game developers, who previously worked on popular games like the Mafia-franchise, the ArmA: Armed Assault-franchise, Silent Hill: Downpour, Vigor, or the UFO-trilogy, UFO: Aftermath, UFO: Aftershock, and UFO: Afterlight.

Currently, the new studio is focused on laying the groundwork for a brand-new Strategy/RPG IP, but THQ Nordic announced Ashborne Games will also support Comanche in its early access phase, along with the game preview. Comanche is a reboot of the old helicopter shooter, which was developed by Nukklear and is now in Early Access on Steam.

Our focus and passion lie in strategy and RPG games. Our goal as a team is to create an authentic gaming experience with sophisticated systems that encourage repeated playthroughs. We believe that’s something that’s really missing on the market,“ said Karel Kalis, Studio Game Director at Ashborne Games.

Interestingly enough, as of March 2021, Ashborne Games has 38 team members, but the studio plans to expand as the work on their new game requires more people. One piece of information revealed by THQ Nordic regarding the unannounced game is that it will use Unreal Engine 4, but other than that, we only know it combines strategy and RPG elements.

While we don't expect any new details about THQ Nordic's new strategy/RPG IP, we don't rule out a 2021 announcement. After all, this isn't your average triple A title that requires many years of development, at least that's what today's announcement suggests.
