User concept envisions a new design for the taskbar

The taskbar has evolved significantly in Windows 11, with Microsoft now centering all icons, along with the Start menu, and therefore giving the Windows desktop a modern touch that some believe was more or less inspired by macOS.

On the other hand, it’s not a secret that Windows users expect an even more modern approach when it comes to the taskbar, and this is how concepts end up proposing bigger transformations that at some level make perfect sense.

This is also the case with this concept shared on reddit by user Kendouw.

As you can see in the screenshots attached here, the concept proposes a massively redesigned taskbar that also includes the flyouts which would normally sit in the system tray.

However, users would also be provided with a dedicated shortcut to launch the notifications and the system tray, therefore eliminating the need for offering a dedicated panel altogether.

Great yet pretty much impossible concept

In addition, the taskbar is also the home of a battery indicator, but the biggest addition is without a doubt the integration of app folders. Clicking or tapping a folder icon expands the view to see all contents, therefore making it much easier to launch a specific app.

In many ways, such a taskbar comes in super-handy, but on the other hand, this approach transforms the desktop taskbar into a clone of the dock available in macOS. In other words, the proposed taskbar does look good, but it just has too much Apple in it, so it’s hard to believe such an overhaul would ever get the go-ahead.

The next major feature update for Windows 11 is expected to go live in the second half of the year, but on the other hand, the taskbar isn’t getting too much love this time.
