BSOD concept imagines a friendlier BSOD approach

The infamous Blue Screen of Death, also known as BSOD, has been around for so many years, and just like the rest of Windows features, it also received several revisions throughout multiple generations.

But while the BSOD itself has evolved, it doesn’t necessarily mean it also got friendlier, as it’s mostly supposed to help power users diagnose issues and find a way to resolve them.

Someone on reddit, however, proposes a completely new approach for the BSOD which includes not only a fresh design, but also a message that’s a lot easier to understand, even for beginners. The concept was created and published on Twitter by Futur3Sn0w.

The design itself uses elements that Windows 10 adopters are already familiar with, including the acrylic effect bundled with Fluent Design. And of course, there’s also a dark theme that would allow the BSOD to align with the rest of the operating system, which also features light and dark modes.

As you can see, there’s little “blue” left in this Blue Screen of Death, but the more important change is the friendlier message that it uses.

“The goal, though, would be to appeal to even the simplest of users, who don't know a lot about super detailed errors, and who don't know what's going on when they get an error message. Hence the more friendly approach,” reddit user TheVoneTrecker, who posted this idea, says.

“It's understood that more advanced users wouldn't like the friendlier look. However, understand that 10X is not going to be a hardcore workstation OS. It's going to be a (sort of) watered-down version of Windows 10, made for more general use. Which is why, at least, in my opinion, it would be better for such an OS to have this kind of user-friendly error in the off chance they receive it.”

It goes without saying the whole thing remains just a concept for now, and as many other cool ideas lately, it’s unlikely to ever make its way to Windows 10 anyway.
