If you haven’t already pre-ordered an iPhone XS, there's no need to worry, as you'll still receive the device on September 21 even if you pre-order it now.

Waiting times aren't increasing despite a high volume of orders, and customers who place a pre-order right now would still the new iPhone on September 21.

This is the first time in the last few years when new iPhones aren't sold out after 30 minutes since the pre-order program starts.

Even though the waiting time might increase for the orders placed in the coming hours, there’s a good chance that shipping times would drop in the coming days, as Apple manages to align production with demand.

This is pretty much what happens every year: new iPhones are sold out in just a few minutes, after which waiting times increase substantially. However, as Apple is working around the clock to produce more units, shipping times also improve for a number of customers, so they end up getting their iPhones much earlier than originally projected.

Apple Store supply

At the same time, there’s the alternative of you going to an Apple Store on September 21 to get the iPhone XS in person. Apple will definitely have supply for walk-in customers, so with a little luck, you’ll be able to secure the new model without waiting.

At this point, it’s too early to discuss whether Apple has tried to prevent the device selling out by preparing a large supply or demand isn't exactly as high as expected, but more information in this regard should be provided soon when first-weekend sale estimates would be published.

iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 will all begin shipping on September 21, while the iPhone XR, which is the cheapest model launched this year, will arrive in late October.

According to people familiar with the matter, iPhone XR is the only one that encountered production issues, particularly due to the new LCD display with a notch at the top.
