This Is the Surface Android Phone that Microsoft Must Launch

Surface Duo is a real thing now, and it marks Microsoft’s return to the mobile hardware market, albeit not in a conventional way.

The Surface Duo is a device that Microsoft wants to use to pioneer a new form factor, as it comes with a dual-screen design that allows the device to be used in multiple modes.

Needless to say, Microsoft launching the Duo with Android was a decision that took many by surprise, especially because the company already has an operating system that can power the dual-screen experience.

This is the purpose of Windows 10X in the first place, so Microsoft choosing Android over its own platform was definitely unexpected.

And yet, Microsoft expanding in the Android hardware market is good news for all those people who wanted a mobile device from the Redmond-based tech giant. The demise of Windows phone has obviously left many dreaming about a new Microsoft smartphone, and the Surface Duo is supposed to address this expectation.

But on the other hand, Microsoft still doesn’t have a traditional phone. I mean, the software giant is indeed an Android device maker now, but the Surface Duo isn’t the kind of beast that can compete against the likes of Google Pixel and iPhone.

PhoneDesigner has come up with the Surface Solo, a concept that envisions what the Surface Duo would look like with just one screen and a more traditional design.

While from some angles it looks like a Google Pixel 3, especially on the back, this Surface Solo looks like the kind of premium device that would easily become a hit, especially thanks to a possible mix of latest-gen high-end hardware and a top-quality build.

Until this happens, the Surface Duo is the best we get in terms of Microsoft mobile hardware and only time will tell if the company wants to become an iPhone rival.
