Microsoft includes new Snipping Tool in preview build

The most recent Windows 11 preview build comes with an early version of the new Snipping Tool that will be part of this operating system when it launches later this year.

Needless to say, the overhauled Snipping Tool is an evolution of both the classic Snipping Tool and Snip & Sketch previously available in Windows 10, and Microsoft says the purpose was to pack the best of both apps under one roof.

The new Snipping Tool also comes with a dark mode, therefore aligning with the rest of modern apps offered by Microsoft while at the same time blending quite nicely in the rest of the operating system if you’re also using a dark theme. Of course, the Snipping Tool can also follow the system theme.

More post-screenshot options

The new Snipping Tool also allows users to work with screenshots in a more effective manner, as it now comes with tools for annotations, additional editing settings, as well as cropping options.

“The Snipping Tool for Windows 11 includes new visuals that build off the classic app with added functionality like the WIN + SHIFT + S keyboard shortcut from Snip & Sketch and richer editing. We’re also introducing a new settings page for Snipping Tool,” Microsoft explains.

“Taking a screenshot is super easy using the WIN + SHIFT + S keyboard shortcut! This will bring up the snipping menu with options to choose from including Rectangular Snip, Freeform Snip, Windows Snip, and Fullscreen Snip.”

Keep in mind, however, that this new Snipping Tool is still in preview stage at this point, but it should be ready by the time Windows 11 gets the go-ahead later this year. Microsoft hasn’t announced the official launch date of Windows 11, but it’s expected to roll out starting October.
