A new Firefox version is now available for download on Windows, Linux, and Mac, and one of the most important changes concerns the address bar.

As we’ve known already since the first beta builds of Firefox 75, Mozilla planned to overhaul the experience with the address bar, not only to make it easier to search, but also to visit your favorite sites easier.

So in Firefox 75 this new experience is live, technically allowing everyone to benefit from all the improvements that Mozilla has been testing for nearly a month.

But what’s so special about the new address bar?

First and foremost, the revamped address bar is supposed to make search smarter and faster (Mozilla’s very own words), which means you should “type less and find more.”

The address bar has been specifically optimized for smaller laptop screens, so it now offers a focus, clean search experience. As you know, the space is limited on small laptops, so Mozilla improved the address bar to make searching more convenient by displaying certain information after a simple click in the bar.

For example, the top sites are now displayed when you select the address, and suggestions displayed in the address bar do not concern only the main keywords to look for information online. Beginning with Firefox 75, the suggestions also point to common Firefox issues, so you’re supposed to find workarounds much faster than before.

Overall, this should make the experience with Firefox much smoother, regardless of the platform you use.

The address bar also comes with improved readability of search suggestions, and Mozilla says the focus is on the new search terms. Linux is getting its own share of improvements, with Mozilla explaining the following:

“On Linux, the behavior when clicking on the Address Bar and the Search Bar now matches other desktop platforms: a single click selects all without primary selection, a double click selects a word, and a triple click selects all with primary selection.

Mozilla offered a summary of all the improvements aimed at the address bar when it rolled out the very first beta build of Firefox 75:

“Type less, find more with Firefox’s revamped address bar. Now, just select the address bar, and a box will expand with links to your top sites. A redesigned interface provides a focused, clean search experience that’s optimized for smaller screens. Solutions to common browser issues now provided right in the search suggestions box.”

Firefox is currently the world’s third most-used desktop browser, and this means that Mozilla has a mission of keeping its application up-to-date and always deliver more polishing and further improvements to keep the experience feel as fresh as possible.

Without a doubt, Mozilla is truly committed to improving Firefox going forward, and the version launched today is living proof in this regard.

What you should know is that Mozilla also wants to deliver improvements at a much faster pace than before. This is part of the company’s promise to keep Firefox up-to-date in the long term.

Beginning with Firefox 74, major updates for the browser are released every four weeks, versus six weeks before. On the other hand, this means that this Firefox updates will be less focused on new features and more on big fixing and further polishing, which kind of makes sense given the accelerated release cadence.

The next Firefox update is now projected to land in May, but in the meantime, you should update to Firefox 75 regardless of your operating system to give a try to this new address bar.
