Surface Duo is Microsoft’s first-ever Android phone expected to launch later this year, and while some features are yet to be discovered, the software giant itself keeps dropping hint after hint to maintain the excitement at a high level.

This time, it’s Panos Panay himself the one who teased with some Surface Duo goodies, as he turned to Instagram to share what’s likely the very first camera sample of the company’s first Android phone.

In other words, what we have here is a photo taken with the Surface Duo, as Panay himself explains in his Instagram post (embedded below):

“Sharing a special moment captured on my Surface Duo. While I am working from home, Costas is learning from home. We're sharing my office today, he's studying for his CAL mid-term. It's great for him to have tools like #Windows and #Surface to help him study in this time,” he says.

Selfie camera

Dissecting the quality of the photo doesn’t make much sense at this point given the compression that online services typically do, but what would be more interesting to find out is what camera Panos used to take this picture.

The Surface Duo prototype that was presented last October was equipped with just a selfie camera, which on such a device is mostly supposed to be used for video calls, so at this point, it’s still not clear if Microsoft added a second camera on the back or not.

And of course, we still don’t have any information about the camera, as this is one of the parts that Microsoft has remained tight-lipped about, with the company focusing entirely on the dual-screen form factor pretty much on every single occasion.

At this point, the Surface Duo is still due in the holiday season of this year, so we’re a little over six months away from the moment we should be able to get our hands on this device.
