Microsoft shares more Surface Duo developer documentation

Surface Duo is not only one of the most ambitious projects released by Microsoft lately, but also the software giant’s first step into the Android hardware market.

And with the Duo expected to launch later this year, the closer we get to this moment, the more information Microsoft shares about it, as it needs developers to be prepared for the unveiling and thus provide users with the apps they need to make the most of the device.

More recently, the company has shared new developer documentation to detail the screen modes supported by the Surface Duo, as the device would obviously work with different screen orientations.

So as it turns out, apps will run on the Surface Duo both in portrait and in landscape mode, either on one screen or on both of them. In other words, no matter how you use the Surface Duo, apps should technically be possible to use the entire screen estate if the user wants to.

The dual-screen bet

Surface Duo comes alongside the Surface Neo, Microsoft’s dual-screen laptop that is powered by Windows 10X.

Microsoft is betting big on this new form factor, and Duo and Neo are the two devices spearheading this new push in the hardware market.

The Surface lineup has always been about innovation and pioneering new product categories, so Microsoft hopes that after launching these two models, other partners would join with their own models to help expand this side of the market.

People close to the matter said Surface Neo could arrive rather sooner than later, as the development of the device is believed to be complete already. Microsoft originally said both would launch in the holiday season of this year, but it remains to be seen if the work on these two has been impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.
