Chrome keeps increasing its market share every month

Google Chrome not only that continues to be the number one browser on the desktop, but it also increases its market share every month, making it harder for rivals to get closer.

Microsoft Edge has long been considered a potential alternative to the likes of Google Chrome, but new data shared by NetMarketShare for the month of August 2018 indicates that Microsoft’s browser is pretty far from all of its competitors.

In fact, Google Chrome is leading the market in such a dominant manner that it’s nearly impossible for any other browser to even dream of securing the top spot on the PC.

Google Chrome is the number one browser with 65.21 percent, up from 64.67 percent the month before, while Mozilla Firefox is the runner-up with 9.76 percent, a small increase from 9.68 percent in July.

As for Microsoft Edge, only a small share improvement was recorded last month, as it jumped from 4.21 percent to 4.31 percent in August.

Internet Explorer survives

More interesting is that Internet Explorer, the previous default browser in Windows 10 and which no longer gets new features, continues to have a market share that’s nearly double the score of Microsoft Edge.

And this happens despite Microsoft pushing for Edge rather aggressively, while Internet Explorer isn’t getting anything else than security updates on Patch Tuesday.

Internet Explorer has a share of 8.85 percent, and it is going down every month, obviously as a result of Microsoft being entirely committed to Edge and no longer investing in new features for the former default Windows browser.

In the coming months, Google Chrome is expected to continue dominating the browser market on the PC, while Microsoft Edge is well positioned to post minor share increases thanks to Windows 10 itself becoming more widely used across the world.
