New taskbar-related fixes in the latest preview build

I don’t know about you, but the taskbar is playing a key role in my experience with Windows devices, as the one place that provides access to pretty much everything on the desktop.

In Windows 11, the taskbar received a major overhaul, with the icons now centered and the Start menu having a new home.

Since the first version of the operating system went live, Microsoft has been working non-stop on refining the taskbar, and Windows 11 build 25252, which was released a few days ago, continues this approach.

The taskbar, for instance, is getting a refined search feature, but at the same time, it also comes with plenty of other fixes that will certainly come in handy. For example, one of the bugs that have finally been resolved concerns a crash that hit the explorer.exe process when pressing Alt + F4 to show the hidden icons flout.

I personally use the keyboard shortcuts as much as possible, and the Alt + F4 hotkey is something that rely on very often, so it’s good to see this bug finally resolved.

Here are all the taskbar-related fixes that are part of the latest Windows 11 preview build:

  • Fixed an explorer.exe crash when using Alt+F4 with the show hidden icons flyout in the system tray open.
  • Fixed multiple explorer.exe crashes impacting system tray performance.
  • Updated the battery icon’s tooltip to let you know if your device is charging slowly.
  • Made a small refinement for tablet-optimized taskbar users to make it a bit easier to expand the taskbar without invoking the Start menu.
  • Fixed an issue which could lead to the taskbar jump lists and preview thumbnails not appearing in the correct position for Insiders with 2 in 1 PCs.

Needless to say, it will take a while until these improvements become available for users, as they are currently part of the Insider program exclusively.
