Developers went into a different direction with this one

RAGE 2 is preparing the world for its arrival on May 14th with one of the most interesting trailers we’ve seen in a long time.

RAGE 2 could make you believe that it has something to do with the first one, but that’s only in spirit only. From what we can tell, the game only shares the same world and backstory, but the characters and the story itself seems to be entirely original.

The first game in the series was developed by id Software and was using a revolutionary engine at that time. Now, id Software partnered up with Avalanche Studios and their collaboration seems to have been a really good one.

You might also feel that Avalanche Studios sounds familiar, and you would be right. In fact, it’s a studio that managed to release quite a few hits in the past few years, including the great Mad Max adaptation and the Just Cause series, just to name a couple.

The launch trailer is certainly different

Bethesda says that “When you’re about to get your head sliced in half by the glowing, wrist-mounted fishhook blade of a giant, old, cyborg man, you tend to reflect on the journey that brought you to that very moment. Relatable, right? Once you see the launch trailer for RAGE 2, you’ll understand.”

After you’ve watched the trailer, you will notice some common themes, but it’s essential to notice that the main character has a voice and the game is much more oriented towards mindless fun, more than anything else.

We recently covered the PC requirements for RAGE 2, and we found them to be more than accessible. Surprisingly, RAGE 2 is using Avalanche Studios' Apex game engine, and it really shows, especially in terms of performance.

Rage 2 is scheduled to be launched on May 14th, for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
