Survey shows 86% of US teens want to get an iPhone

US teens have always been huge Apple fans, and unsurprisingly the intent to purchase new iPhone increased nearly every year.

This is exactly what happened in 2018 as well, as a Piper Jaffray survey reveals that no less than 86 percent of the US want to get an iPhone, up from 84 percent last spring.

The research included 8,600 US teens from 48 states, and it shows that the intent to purchase an iPhone has reached the highest level in history for this particular customer category.

No less than the 82 percent of the teens included in the study said they already own an iPhone, so judging from this data, the only thing that’s better than an iPhone is a new iPhone.

Rolex vs. Apple Watch

The survey also reveals interesting numbers regarding the Apple Watch. Apple’s smartwatch is obviously the preferred companion for an iPhone, and given that so many US teens already own an iPhone, it goes without saying that the Watch would make sense too.

A total of 23 percent of the US teens said they want to get an Apple Watch sometime in the next six months, a notable increase from 20 percent in the spring.

What’s more unexpected is that most US teens coming from families with high incomes put the Apple Watch in the second place in terms of favorite brand. Because the only thing that’s better than an Apple Watch for these potential buyers is actually a Rolex watch.

However, Apple Watch is ranked higher than classic watch brands like Fossil, Casio, Gucci, and Nixon. Fitbit has also made it to the top ten.

These numbers are surprising, to say the least, especially as the iPhone is becoming a more expensive product. This year’s iPhone XS Max, for instance, tops at $1,449 in the United States, while the “affordable” sibling iPhone XR starts at $749.
