A closer look at the top-of-the-range new Dell XPS 15

The Dell XPS lineup has long been considered one of the best choices in the Windows world and many described it as the only worthy alternative to Microsoft’s Surface devices.

The Dell XPS 15 has received a new upgrade for 2020, and leaving aside all the other refinements, the hardware side is the one that’s getting a lot of love this year.

And what’s more, with all the improvements that it received, the top-of-the-range Dell XPS 15 competes against the most expensive Surface Book 3 configuration, in some cases even bringing better value for the money.

First and foremost, it’s important to know that the base XPS 15 doesn’t come with touch support, but if you buy the top setup, you can also use Windows 10 with touch input.

The default processor on the top-of-the-line Dell XPS 15 (2020) is the 10th Generation Intel Core i7-10750H (12MB Cache, up to 5.0 GHz, 6 cores), but for $100 extra, you can equip the laptop with the 10th Generation Intel Core i7-10875H (16MB Cache, up to 5.1 GHz, 8 cores). It goes without saying the latter is the recommended choice for everyone who wants better performance, despite the small price increase.

The same thing in the memory department. Dell offers this version of the XP 15 with just 32GB RAM, but if you agree to pay $300 extra, you get 64GB DDR4-2933MHz. Paired with the faster processor mentioned above, this RAM upgrade should help build an all-rounder that serves its purpose properly for pretty much everybody.

The Dell XPS 15 comes with a 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive, but Dell offers the option of doubling the storage to 2TB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive with just $200 extra.

When it comes to the graphics, there’s nothing that you can change here, as the laptop comes with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti 4GB GDDR6 with Max-Q.

Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, and a 6-cell battery with 86WHr is also the default with no other extra option.

When it comes to connectivity, you’re getting two Thunderbolt 3 ports with power delivery and DisplayPort, one USB-C 3.1 connector, one card reader and a headphone jack, as well as a Wedge-shaped lock slot.
