Despite the fact that first quarter of the year has been quite strong with big releases like Dying Light 2, Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West, and the last quarter continuing the trend with God of War Ragnarok, the middle part of the year has been quite “silent.”

There have been very few big-budget game release after Elden Ring, but that doesn’t mean that the gaming industry isn’t thriving. There are a lot of smaller games coming out every month, and while July hasn’t been particularly rich when it comes to releases, August will make up for it and then some.

That said, August opens up with about a dozen indies in the first week. Coming out on August 2, we have The Mortuary Assistant (PC) and Frogun (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo. Originally released on mobile, South of the Circle launches on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch on August 3.

It’s followed by no less than seven new games coming out on August 4: Camp Canyonwood (Steam Early Access), PlateUp (PC), Hindsight (PC, Nintendo Switch), Kokoro Clover Season 1 (PC, Nintendo Switch), Hard West 2 (PC), Thunderbolt Collection (PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), and Turbo Golf Racing (Early Access/Game Preview).

Focus and mindfulness and meditation, Retreat To Enen is set for release on PC on August 5. A few days later, on August 8, Tyrant's Blessing is scheduled for launch on PC, followed by Farthest Frontier (Steam Early Access) on August 9, and Two Point Campus (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), which will also be available on Xbox Game Pass.

The next week will be pretty busy too. Lost in Play launches on PC and Nintendo Switch on August 10, the same day that two other indies are set for release: Pulling No Punches (PC) and Vanaris Tactics (PC).

One of the pleasant surprises of this year, Rumbleverse, the free-to-play brawler battle royale developer by Iron Galaxy and published by Epic Games, launches on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on August 11.

Two other highly-anticipated indies are set for release on the same day – Arcade Paradise (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S) and Devolver Digital’s Cult of the Lamb (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch).

Previously exclusive to PlayStation, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered arrives on PC on August 12, followed by Fashion Police Squad (PC) on August 15, and Rollerdrome (PC, PlayStation 4/5) coming out the next day.

THQ Nordic’s hunting series continues with Way of the Hunter, which releases for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on August 16. The next few days will be quite busy too, as we have Blossom Tales 2: The Minotaur Prince launching on PC and Nintendo Switch on August 16, Robo Revenge Squad coming to Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on August 17, and Thymesia arriving on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox and Series X/S on August 18.

The second part of the month continues with a bucketload of games releases, starting with Mutropolis coming to Nintendo Switch and Cursed to Golf, which releases on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on August 18.

A Tale of Paper: Refolded is scheduled to launch on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S and August 19, followed by one of the biggest releases on the month, Madden NFL 23 (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S) coming out on August 20.

Another highly-anticipated indie game that’s supposed to release next month is Midnight Fight Express, which we’re expecting to get on August 23. It will come to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Saints Row fans are probably pumped up about the reboot of the franchise (or not), as the game is set for release on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on August 23. Two other indies are filling in before the next big release of the month – I Was A Teenage Exocolonist (PC, PlayStation 4/5) and Pac-Man World Re-Pac (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), which are set for release on August 25 and 26, respectively.

Atlus’ next bit RPG, Soul Hackers 2 lands on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on August 26, followed by THQ Nordic’s Destroy All Humans 2 - Reprobed (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S) on August 30.

The end of the month is just as busy with some interesting titles like F1 Manager 2022 (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), Tinykin (PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch), ORX (PC), and ZOR: Pilgrimage of the Slorfs (Steam Early Access), all coming out on August 30.

The last day of the month will be marked by a duo of games: Dusk Diver 2 (PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch) and Scathe (PC). That wraps up a very busy month for the gaming industry, so pick what you want to play to avoid going broke.
