Surface Duo to arrive before the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2

Microsoft announced its first Android smartphone in late 2019 and the company promised it would launch the device in the holiday of 2020.

But earlier this year, however, people familiar with the matter said the development of the Surface Duo advanced better than anticipated, so the device would actually hit the shelves much earlier.

Now it looks like Microsoft is very close to giving the go-ahead to the Surface Duo, with new information indicating that the company could take the wraps of the device at one point in the next two months.

More specifically, Microsoft watcher Zac Bowden says the company wants to begin selling the Surface Duo before Samsung takes the wraps off the Galaxy Fold 2. The South Korean company is projected to unveil the Galaxy Note20 and the Galaxy Fold 2 on August 2, and if this information is accurate, then Microsoft is supposed to launch the Surface Duo in the next few weeks, most likely with an official announcement on its website.

Outdated hardware?

For the time being, however, it’s still not known if Microsoft is planning any upgrades in terms of hardware or not.

The Surface Duo was announced with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, and given a new-generation Snapdragon chip is already available, launching this device with old hardware could make many consider it an outdated smartphone.

But the main highlight on the Surface Duo is the dual-screen form factor, and this is the one that Microsoft is bragging about with every occasion. The Duo is built with productivity in mind, like the other Surface models.

One thing that Microsoft is yet to announce is the price of the Surface Duo, so expect more information to be shared in the next two months when the device is also projected to become available for customers worldwide.
