Yet another celebrity targeted by hackers

Shona McGarty, mostly known for playing Whitney Dean in super-popular British soap opera EastEnders, is the most recent victims of hackers.

The iCloud account belonging to the 26-year-old actress was reportedly breached earlier this month, and hackers managed to steal at least two different X-rated photos stored in the cloud, according to a report from The Sun.

Both photos ended up being published on websites known for leaking content as part of the Fappening scandal, and according to the cited source, one of them shows the actress “undressed in bed while another captures her nude in the bath.”

The iCloud hack

No specifics were provided as to how the hack happened, but since the photos were stolen from an iCloud account, they were most likely automatically uploaded from an iPhone for backing up purposes.

By default, iPhones are configured to back up certain data in the cloud, including photos taken with the device’s camera. If unauthorized access to the iCloud account is obtained, the data is also compromised, and this is how hackers most likely managed to steal the two photos.

The Fappening saga was based on similar attacks, as malicious actors managed to get access to the iCloud accounts of several celebrities and access their data, including their photo galleries. Nude images were then published online, leading to the biggest celebrity data leak in history.

McGarty hasn’t said a single word about the hack, and it’s not known whether she’s considering reaching out to law enforcement or not. In the past, several other celebrities contacted the police to investigate the breach and the leak, while at the same time seeking legal action against websites publishing the content.

It remains to be seen if this is the case for this new leak as well, but the cited publication cites a source close to the actress as saying that McGarty is “very upset they’re on the Internet for all to see.”
