The company criticizes Apple’s review version

Telegram is one of the most popular alternatives to the likes of WhatsApp, and in many ways, it’s also a competitor to Apple’s very own iMessage, as it allows users to communicate in a very secure way and with lots of extras.

In the last few years, the number of users relying on Telegram for mobile messaging has grown exponentially, and this isn’t necessarily a surprise.

Not only that Telegram itself received major updates, but the controversy that affected its competitors, including the WhatsApp privacy fiasco that took place earlier this year, all convinced more and more users to give the app a try.

Now Telegram is working on what the company calls a revolutionary update, but founder Pavel Durov claims that Apple itself blocks its release. It all comes down to the review process the company uses not only for new apps but also for updates.

“The only thing that we find discouraging is that we're often unable to distribute the new versions of Telegram due to the obscure "review process" imposed on all mobile apps by the tech monopolies,” Durov explains.

“For example, our upcoming update – which is about to revolutionize how people express themselves in messaging – has been stuck in Apple's "review" for two weeks, without explanation or any feedback provided by Apple.”

Durov also reminds of Apple’s 30% tax on app revenue, questioning the company’s slow review process that hurts both small and large developers.

“If Telegram, one of the top 10 most popular apps globally, is receiving this treatment, one can only imagine the difficulties experienced by smaller app developers. It's not just demoralizing: it causes direct financial losses to hundred of thousands of mobile apps globally. This harm goes on top of the 30% tax Apple and Google take from app developers – which, according to them, is supposed to pay for the resources needed to review apps,” Durov concluded.
