14 DAY TRIAL // Tannenberg is a new massive multiplayer FPS from Blackmill Games and M2H, the same studios that brought us the very well received Verdun. The game finally exited Early Access and is available on Steam.
The World Wars have inspired quite a few games over the years, and I wouldn’t be surprised to know that people learned more history from these titles than in classrooms. It’s the kind of fact that’s both interesting and sad, if true.
Nevertheless, we have to acknowledge that games are not usually the best source of historical facts, with some exceptions made for the general direction of the conflict. But there is a select number of games that go out of their way to portray conflicts as accurate as possible.
Tannenberg feels both accurate and depressing
If anything, war is depressing, as it should be. That feeling is very well expressed in Tannenberg, even if it’s a multiplayer game. It’s not really supposed to be fun, but to offer a feeling of accomplishment.
While the game is named Tannenberg, after the great Battle of Tannenberg between Russian and Germany in August 1914, it covers more than just this conflict. In fact, numerous armies are available, including Austro-Hungarian K.u.K, Romanian, Bulgarians, Cossacks, and more.
The game itself also prides itself with the accuracy of weapons, uniforms, and strategies employed. It comes with support for 64 concurrent players that fight to gain control of the battlefield. More than 50 unique weapons are available, six large maps, and full AI bot support to fill those massive maps.
Furthermore, Tannenberg is now on Steam with a 15% discount - or a 25% loyalty discount if the user already owns Verdun. The system requirements for the game are also pretty reasonable, which means that people with older hardware will be able to play it as well.
