A gloomy RPG with a rapid turn-based battle system

Bonfire is the new title from the guys who launched Cinders and Solstice back in 2016, an amazing adventure game about a mysterious young woman, MoaCube. Unlike their previous game, Bonfire is a tactical RPG, a completely different genre that, we might add, it's more popular these days than adventure games.

MoaCube's new game, Bonfire is now available in Early Access via Steam for just €13.5 (includes a 10% discount). The game features bite-sized visuals and promises to offer a challenging, yet enjoyable dungeon-crawling experience.

By far the most interesting aspect of Bonfire is the rapid turn-based battle system. Due to this unique system, each battle is a puzzle that needs to be solved rather than big numbers flying on the screen.

The developers claim Bonfire is a quick experience when it comes to combat, but it's also deeply tactical, which means you'll have to plan ahead if you want to be successful. The story of the game is heavily character-driven and focused on the dynamic between the heroes traveling through a world that couldn't be saved.

The protagonist, Hildie, and her group of heroic misfits journey through this desolate world in a quest to destroy the Faceless Overlord of the Mournfolk, a strange but fitting name for a villain. Although this seems like a lost cause, it seems that the hopelessness of her quest doesn't affect her in any way.

Finally, it's important to add that Bonfire is a procedurally-generated game that's been created to be played endlessly. Well, not quite since the game does have a solid story and an end to it, but Bonfire does enable players to create some crazy builds while they're adventuring.

If you love games that offer short, intense gameplay sessions that you can't get enough of, Bonfire seems like a great choice. Hopefully, the final version of the game will live up to the hype.
