Apple releases new version of iOS 14.2 for its latest iPhone

Apple’s new iPhone 12 is now available for purchase, as all four models are live after the delayed launch that the company has embraced for this new lineup.

Surprisingly, Apple has just published a revised version of iOS 14.2 for the iPhone 12, though for the time being, it’s not exactly clear what is included.

The same iOS update was shipped for all supported iPhones earlier this month, and it brought new emojis, more wallpapers, Intercom support, and several other improvements. So this new update going live on the iPhone 12 is likely to bring all these features, as well as other bug fixes that could be specific to this particular model.

The iPhone 12 lineup

The 2020 iPhone lineup includes four different models, as follows:

  • iPhone 12 mini with 5.4-inch display
  • iPhone 12 with 6.1-inch display (a successor to iPhone 11)
  • iPhone 12 Pro with 6.1-inch display (a successor to iPhone 11 Pro)
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max with 6.7-inch display (a successor to iPhone 11 Pro Max)

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro were the first to go on sale in October, while iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max hit the shelves earlier this month. All models are currently in stock, depending on storage and region, and Apple is expected to resolve all inventory issues rather sooner than later.

All models come with 5G capabilities, and earlier this year, people familiar with the matter said a 4G model could be planned as well, though it would only launch in 2021. For the time being, however, Apple has remained completely tight-lipped on such a device, though it makes sense for Apple to release a 4G-only iPhone 12 in those markets where 5G support isn’t yet available.
