Rumors about Microsoft’s mythic Surface Phone continue to emerge and fill in a puzzle that will be completely revealed once the Redmond-based company confirms the existence of the device and what it has to offer in terms of specs and software.

Most of us are seeing the Surface Phone as a savior for the Windows Phone ecosystem, but by the time the device is expected to arrive on the market, it might be too late.

Still, Microsoft sees things differently and doesn't want to turn the Surface Phone into a so-called savior, but rather wishes to make more customers use its own services on both desktop and mobile phones.

This is why Surface Phone won't be a flagship smartphone per se, but more of a “business flagship,” NPU reports. According to anonymous sources, Microsoft has decided to focus more on productivity features with the Surface Phone rather than on top notch specs.

Surface Phone might never be released if Windows 10 Mobile doesn't sell well

It might be disappointing for some that have probably waited for so long for the Surface Phone to learn that Microsoft is taking into consideration a non-commercial approach.

The good news is Microsoft plans to launch at least two other flagship smartphones next year. In fact, the company is already testing a few prototypes, both powered by Snapdragon 820 chipset.

Unfortunately, both are said to arrive sometime in Q3 2016, which might be a little bit too late for those devices to really matter in the smartphone market.

Even though the Snapdragon 820 hasn't been released on the market yet, by the time Microsoft decided to include it onto their phones, Qualcomm's chipset will be at the end of the release cycle and another SoC (system-on-chip) might take this place.

Well, it looks like we will always have the Surface Phone if the new flagship smartphones won't be on par with competition spec-wise. Not to mention that most of Windows Phone fans don't really favor specs over software and features.
