Microsoft has released an update for the Windows 10 Mail and Calendar app that brings Windows Ink support to all users.

Starting with version 11605.10325.20106.0, which is now gradually released to users worldwide, Windows 10 Mail app lets you write emails with touch or a stylus, like the Surface Pen. This also means that you can draw in emails, which is a very useful feature especially in office environments where employees want to share presentations or include notes in an email.

The new feature is available under the Draw option in a New Mail screen, and it should technically exist on all devices where a touchscreen is available.

It was previously released to insiders exclusively, but according to recent reports, it’s now in the process of being pushed to production devices as well.

Surface Andromeda

Technically, this is a neat feature that comes in handy to anyone with a Surface device or any other 2-in-1 or tablet that features stylus support.

But on the other hand, it could also represent a major step towards finalizing the Andromeda app ecosystem that Microsoft is believed to be working on ahead of the device’s launch.

Surface Andromeda is a new product developed by Microsoft which would use a dual-screen design and support several form factors, like tablet, laptop, and note-taking device. With support for the Surface Pen, Andromeda may be positioned as a modern successor to the famous Courier concept, being specifically aimed at the enterprise and possibly at users in the education market.

With this update, Windows 10 Mail thus joins the lineup of apps that could be optimized for Andromeda, especially given this increasing focus on stylus support.

Andromeda was pushed back earlier this year due to lack of apps, and Microsoft is now said to be working on refining software ahead of a possible launch sometime next year.
