Spotify is the latest big name to join the Apple Silicon push, as the company has released a new beta build of its application that runs natively on M1-powered devices.

Apple launched its very own custom ARM chip last November, and since then, the majority of developers out there coding for macOS have been working hard to add support for the new processor.

While at the first glance Spotify is a little bit late to the party, the company says it has tried to make sure everything is running just as expected.

This is also the reason it has only released a beta build for now, as it just wants to collect additional feedback from users and only then bring the full application to everyone with an M1 computer.

“We have been working hard backstage on this and are happy to announce that we now have a Beta version of our app available. It features many compatibility improvements and optimizations for the new Apple architecture,” Spotify says.

Still a beta for now

Needless to say, given it’s a beta, there’s also a chance something doesn’t work exactly as planned, and this is the reason you shouldn’t install this build unless you know exactly what you do. The standard version of Spotify using emulation still runs pretty well, though it obviously doesn’t benefit from the performance improvements brought by Apple Silicon.

“Please note that as a Beta, some unexpected behavior might still occur. We'll use all the feedback and info we get from you to tweak and improve your Spotify experience. And if everything works great we’d love to hear that too!” Spotify says.

The company hasn’t provided an ETA as to when it plans to release the new M1 client for all devices out there, but given the beta program has only recently started, you’d better not hold your breath for it.
