Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming services on all platforms, and the company knows that it always needs to stay up to date with the latest features added on the devices where it’s available.

The same for iPhone, where Spotify is considered to be one of the most powerful alternatives to Apple Music.

Apple rolled out iOS 14 last month, and one of the highlights in this new version was supposed for widgets on the home screen. While widgets have been around for a while in iOS, the new software update brought a major redesign, while also allowing users to enable them on the home screen for a more dynamic experience.

However, devs themselves need to update their apps with widgets, and Spotify hasn’t necessarily been in a rush to do the whole thing until now.

The software update that Spotify released today for iOS app finally brings widget support, so users can enable them on their devices after installing the latest version.

Available today for everybody

There are two widgets that come with the app, and both of them are supposed to show the Recently Played song on the iPhone home screen. There are two sizes, namely small and wide, and the widget seems to change its background color based on the artwork that shows up in the displayed song.

Spotify originally released the widget support as part of a beta shipped to testers in TestFlight last week, so the company moved pretty fast to bring the new feature to everybody.

But just like before, it’s important to keep in mind that iOS 14 widgets aren’t interactive, which means that you can’t control the music playback or things like that. Apple limits widgets to static information without support for dynamic options to let users control the apps themselves.
