Ostranauts is the upcoming game developed by Blue Bottle Games, the same studio that gave us Neo Scavenger, an amazing turn-based RPG wasteland survival game. Ostranauts was announced back in December, but apart from a very short teaser and the promise that the game will be launched in 2020, few other details were revealed at that time.

Today, indie publisher Modern Wolf and developer Blue Bottle Games released new never-before-seen gameplay footage, as well as a development update that sheds some light on the upcoming spaceship simulation game, which will be launching into Early Access on PC later this year.

First off, if you didn't read our previous report, you'd probably want to know that Ostranauts is a detailed simulation of owning and living aboard a spaceship. The story takes place in a solar system where honest living is a slow death sentence. Set in the Neo Scavenger universe, where Earth has suffered a cataclysmic collapse, the rest of the System lives on in a state of capitalistic dystopia.

In Ostranauts, players must create a captain, build or customize their starting ship from the spoils of their career history, and find ways to keep their crew happy, as well as find the necessary resources to keep going.

Each ship can be built in any shape using functioning modular parts. The parts have physical properties, interact with each other, and can wear out over time. Another important aspect of Ostranauts is the so-called “crew needs.”

According to developers, crew members have physiological and emotional needs, ranging from basic needs like food, water, oxygen, and temperature, to more esoteric needs like privacy, security, intimacy, and esteem.

When the game will launch in Early Access, players can expect to be able to create their own spaceship captain, socialize with NPCs, and start a shipbreaker career allowing them to salvage from derelict ships.

During Early Access, new content will be added, such as the ability to fly to different worlds to complete tasks, get more tools for characters and parts for their ship, additional ship types, combat elements (ships and hand to hand), as well as encounters with other ships that might end badly.
