It's been a good couple of weeks for Sony, as the Japanese company finished testing Android 7.0 Nougat before other major handset makers like Samsung, and it has even released the update for a few Xperia smartphones.

Although Sony tested Android 7.0 Nougat for the Xperia X Performance, the Japanese handset maker didn't confirm what other smartphones would be getting the update until recently.

Earlier this month, Sony announced that the following Xperia devices would receive Android 7.0 Nougat updates at some point: Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra, and Xperia X Compact.

Since the Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ have already received the update, they aren't mentioned in the list. As for the rest of the phones, no exact release dates have been confirmed, but we do know that at least two other Xperia phones are now eligible for the update.

According to XperiaBlog, Sony has just kicked off the rollout of the Android 7.0 Nougat update for both the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact. In addition, the Xperia X Dual users can download the update too, as soon as it becomes available.

For the time being, Xperia X and Xperia X Compact users from various countries have confirmed the update is available for download. Here are all the regions where the rollout has already begun: Australia, Latin America, Middle East, Russia, Turkey, Thailand, and Vietnam.

It appears that this is a staged rollout, so we expect the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact to be available to even more users in the coming days.

If you live in any of the regions mentioned, it's worth checking for the update. In case you're wondering, you should look for firmware version 34.2.A.0.266.
