UPDATE: Unfortunately, Sony decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4. Here is the company's full statment: "While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard."

Original story: Sony announced over the weekend it will reveal many of the PlayStation 5 games that we will be able to play this holiday on June 4. After offering fans an in-depth look into PlayStation 5's hardware, Sony is now trying to justify the purchase of its next-generation console by revealing some of the upcoming exclusives.

Although the word “exclusive” isn't mentioned in Sony's announcement, there's no doubt that there will be some among the titles the Japanese company plans to showcase later this week. A new console without games to prove its capabilities is just a piece of furniture, which is why June 4 might be one of the most important days of 2020 for PlayStation fans.

We’ve shared technical specifications and shown you the new DualSense wireless controller. But what is a launch without games? That’s why I’m excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday. The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware,” said Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment.

We don't know the format of the show yet, but if Sony plans to adopt the same formula as Microsoft's Inside Xbox event held early last month. However, we do know that PlayStation's gaming event will run for a bit more than an hour, plenty of time to see at least a dozen new games if Sony will showcase them one after another without too many timeouts.

More importantly, Sony confirmed that after this week's showcase, it will still have much to share with us. That's to be expected considering the Japanese company hasn't yet announced PlayStation 5's price and availability window. Hopefully, we will learn more about that on June 4, at 1:00 pm Pacific Time.
