The launch of the next-generation iPhone is approaching, but buying a smartphone called iPhone 13 doesn’t seem to be everybody’s favorite thing.

The fear of number 13, or triskaidekaphobia, could have a pretty big impact on the sales of the iPhone 13, with a study conducted by SellCell revealing that no less than 1 in 5 Apple users aren’t such big fans of this upcoming model just because of the name.

“A whopping 74% would prefer a different name than iPhone 13 for next-gen iPhones, with ‘iPhone (2021)’ voted the most suitable name at 38%. Other responses: iPhone 13 (26%), iPhone 21 (16%), iPhone 12S (13%), iPhone 14 (7%),” the research reveals.

When asked to pick a new name for the upcoming iPhone, just to avoid number 13, most people picked iPhone 2021, while only 26 percent said calling the device iPhone 13 makes sense. Some 16 percent of the respondents believed Apple should move to a naming approach similar to Samsung’s and call the new model iPhone 21 as part of an approach that aligns with the release year.

“13% would like to see the ‘S’ suffix make a comeback with the next iPhone range (‘iPhone 12S’), while a mere 7% wish Apple would skip the number ’13’ altogether and jump straight to ‘iPhone 14,” SellCell says.

The iOS 15 arrival

On the other hand, it looks like Apple users aren’t necessarily very excited with the improvements coming in iOS 15. 22 percent of the respondents said they’re not at all excited with iOS 15, and only 4 percent said they are extremely excited.

The new feature most people seem to like is the upgraded Wallet that allows for storing ID cards and the enhanced search functionality bundled with Spotlight.

The least exciting feature is the updated Health app and the improved Apple Maps, according to the survey.
