iPhone 12 mini started shipping earlier this week

iPhone 12 mini is the smallest smartphone launched by Apple this year, and unsurprisingly, it’s quite a compelling purchase for those who still want a pocket-size device.

A welcome upgrade from the iPhone SE or iPhone 8, the iPhone 12 mini started shipping this week, but unfortunately, the very first customers that got it already came across a serious problem.

It’s related to touch sensitivity, as some discovered that swiping up from the bottom of the display on the lock screen to unlock the device doesn’t always work. As per reports, it looks like simply changing the finger that’s used for the whole thing solves the problem, but only temporarily, with some users speculating it’s an issue related to conductivity or grounding.

A bunch of users discovered that the whole thing doesn’t happen when the iPhone 12 mini is connected to power using a standard wall charger or when a case isn’t used and the hand touches the steel frame of the device.

No word from Apple just yet

For the time being, Apple hasn’t yet acknowledged these problems and it’s unclear if they happen to all iPhone 12 mini buyers, but more information should surface in the coming days and weeks as the smartphone is purchased by more people out there.

On the other hand, expect Apple to introduce a series of refinements in the upcoming software updates, though it’ll obviously remain to be seen how much a new operating system update can further refine the touchscreen struggles.

By the looks of things, the iPhone 12 mini is the only new iPhone that’s hitting these glitches. The iPhone 12 Pro Max, which also started shipping earlier this week, appears to be on the safe side for the time being, with no touch sensitivity problems reported so far by those who received the smartphone.
