No new updates would be provided for official app

This shouldn't come as a big surprise to Windows Phone fans given the current state of the platform, but Slack has recently announced that it's abandoning the operating system completely.

The official Slack app will continue to be available in the Store, though no new updates would be released, so sooner or later it would still be outdated.

While Slack does not plan to remove the download listing from the store, this could obviously change at some point in the future, so it's better to migrate either to an alternative service or to another mobile platform like iOS and Android where support continues to be offered.

In a message displayed to users following the app update to version 2018.61.0.0, Slack reveals that this is the last pack of improvements coming to Windows Phone users.

Switching to Android or iOS seems inevitable

"Saying goodbye to Windows Phone. This will be the last version of Slack for Windows Phone. It comes with improvements – like bug fixes and better file handling – and we hope it works for you, as long as you need it. Thanks so much for your support and feedback, and for using Slack," the message reads.

Naturally, the most obvious alternative to Slack would be Microsoft's own Microsoft Teams, but the Redmond-based software giant itself has given up on Windows Phone earlier this year. This means that users who stick with this particular mobile operating system would be forced to make a change sooner or later, especially as the platform will be reaching end-of-support in mid-2019 and no new security fixes would be shipped either.

In the meantime, all these apps continue to receive support on Android and iOS, so if you want to enjoy full app updates and security improvements, leaving behind Windows phones is the thing that you need to do. Microsoft itself has already confirmed that no new features and devices are planned for Windows 10 Mobile.
