Microsoft brings Safari support for Skype on the web

Microsoft has recently updated Skype for the web with support for Safari on both the desktop and mobile, so right now, the company says you can connect to the service regardless of the device you’re using.

On the desktop, for example, you can use Microsoft Edge version 87 and higher, Chromium-powered Edge version 87 and higher, Google Chrome version 87 and higher, Safari version 13.1 and higher, and other Chromium-based browsers that are running version 87 or higher.

On mobile, on the other hand, you can use Microsoft Edge version 43 and higher on Android or Safari version 13.1 and higher on iOS.

So right now, Skype on the web still doesn’t support Firefox on the desktop and Google Chrome mobile.

New Skype improvements

The latest Skype update, which brings it to version 8.71, comes with Meet Now improvements, as well as with a bunch of other refinements here and there.

“We've made it so you can name your Meet Now meetings when you create them, plus add emoticons and photos to personalize your meeting titles! Coming up with clever meeting names is on you, though,” Microsoft explains. “We've added scene selections for Together mode, so you and your friends can get together (virtually) anywhere.”

Keep in mind, however, that these new features are rolling out gradually to users across the world, so if they don’t show up right away, just wait a few more days and check back again.

Of course, if you want to use Skype for the web in Firefox, you can still do this by simply changing the user agent and emulate Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. But on the other hand, Skype not supporting the world’s third most popular browser is still uncanny, especially because millions of users are running it.
