Future OS update to bring a brand-new light theme

Everybody likes to personalize their computers and customize the appearance based on their own preferences, so all the improvements that Microsoft is making in Windows 10 are very well received.

Living proof is the new light theme that Microsoft is working on right now. This light theme, which will go live for everyone with the release of Windows 10 version 1903 in the spring, will make the desktop look and feel more modern, especially because Microsoft has also created new icons to align with this look.

In fact, Microsoft has made it a priority to improve themes in Windows 10, and both the dark and the light themes are living proof in this regard.

But despite Microsoft putting a lot of effort into revamping Windows 10’s look, there still are things to improve about both themes, as they still don’t cover the entire operating system.

The dark mode, for instance, despite being around for a few Windows 10 versions already, is still not available in key areas of the OS, like the task manager.

There are also users calling for Microsoft to adjust the shades of black and dark gray that it uses across the operating system, and while I believe that more further refinements would be made as Windows 10 advances, the software giant doesn’t seem to be very keen on doing this right now.

Microsoft working on a light theme gives hope that the Redmond-based software firm would continue its work in this regard and release several other such visual styles in the upcoming OS feature updates.

Of course, while this sounds like an easy thing to do at first, customizing the whole UI of a complex system like Windows 10 takes time. And the current state of the dark theme is living proof.

However, this doesn’t stop Windows 10 diehards from calling for Microsoft to create at least three different themes.

A Feedback Hub suggestion indicates that Windows 10 should come with light, dark grey, and black modes, which could help the operating system adapt not only to user’s preferences but also to the hardware available on each device – it’s a well-known thing that black modes are particularly useful on OLED displays, and since there are several laptops with such screen tech on the market, Windows 10 would just fit like a glove on these.

This suggestion already has more than 4,000 votes in the Feedback Hub, and it shows just how much users want to be able to customize the look of the operating system.

There’s one thing that users should have in mind when talking about Windows 10 themes: such visual styles adjust the look of the entire operating system, and this includes the taskbar, the Start menu, icons, and apps.

Microsoft itself has created a themes category in the Microsoft Store, but until now, the packs published here didn’t bring anything else than wallpapers. Back in the days when Windows 7 was the latest Windows versions, themes included several other modifications, like sounds and cursors.

Truth be told, you can still find themes with such goodies for Windows 10 too, and you can even download third-party cursors or sounds to use them in the operating system, but the concept of themes as Microsoft uses it is much more basic at this point.

The next Windows 10 version is projected to go live in the spring, and for now, we’ll just have to live with two different themes. Whether or not Microsoft will release more customization options in the future still remains to be seen, but most of the users on Windows 10 drool after a personalized experience in the OS, and this can only be achieved with more updates in this regard.
