Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice took the gaming world by surprise when it launched two years ago. The dark fantasy action-adventure game tells the story of Senua, a woman who struggles with psychosis. The game serves as a metaphor to describe Senua's emotions who she believes are the result of a curse.

Developed by a small team of twenty or so people, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was described by Ninja Theory as an “independent AAA game.” After being acquired by Microsoft last year, the studio revealed it's working on a new MOBA called Bleeding Edge, which is scheduled for release in 2020.

Surprisingly, that's not the only game that Ninja Theory is currently working on, as Microsoft announced during The Game Awards that a sequel to Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is already in the works.

Unfortunately, apart from the amazing announcement trailer that ran during the show, we know nothing about Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, the name of the upcoming sequel. However, we do know that the game will be launched on the Xbox Series X, Microsoft's next-generation gaming console, which was revealed during the same show.

Microsoft also confirmed that the footage shown in the trailer was captured in-engine and supposedly reflects the power of Xbox Series X. We doubt Hellblade II will be exclusive to Xbox Series X, especially that Microsoft started to focus on PC gaming recently with the introduction of Xbox Game Pass.

Senua's Sacrifice: Hellblade II might be an Xbox Series X and Windows 10 PC exclusive, but only for a limited time. There's also a high chance that the game will be released for current-gen consoles or at least it will be playable on the Xbox One because the Series X features backward compatibility.

Microsoft's Phil Spencer said that the game is early in development, which is why Senua's Saga: Hellblade II doesn't have a release date yet. Still, it won't surprise anyone if this will end up being an Xbox Series X launch title.
