While Apple’s typical September event will take place tomorrow and will bring us the new-generation iPhone and Apple Watch, there’s a chance the Cupertino-based tech giant holds another event in October, as there’s so much more to share, it seems.

So in addition to the new iPhone 13 and the Apple Watch Series 7, Apple is also planning to take the wraps off upgraded Apple Silicon, with some news on the iPad front also expected.

But according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is likely to use the October event specifically to announce the M1X chip, which could come with additional optimizations over the M1.

The first Apple Silicon update

Apple announce its custom ARM-powered chip last fall with much fanfare, and since then, the company has been working behind the closed doors not necessarily on a completely new generation but on an upgraded version whose purpose is to push the original optimizations even further.

“M1 is the first personal computer chip built using cutting-edge 5-nanometer process technology and is packed with an astounding 16 billion transistors, the most Apple has ever put into a chip. It features the world’s fastest CPU core in low-power silicon, the world’s best CPU performance per watt, the world’s fastest integrated graphics in a personal computer, and breakthrough machine learning performance with the Apple Neural Engine,” Apple said last year when it announced the M1 chip.

“As a result, M1 delivers up to 3.5x faster CPU performance, up to 6x faster GPU performance, and up to 15x faster machine learning, all while enabling battery life up to 2x longer than previous-generation Macs. With its profound increase in performance and efficiency, M1 delivers the biggest leap ever for the Mac.”

Needless to say, the company has remained completely tight-lipped on its second event so far, so expect additional news to be shared on this front in the coming weeks.
