Spec upgrade planned for the Galaxy Chromebook

Samsung’s Galaxy Chromebook could soon get a welcome upgrade in terms of hardware that could align it with the technical specifications of Windows alternatives, thus making it a better option for those planning to make the switch to Chrome OS.

Chromebooks don’t necessarily have to be hardware monsters, pretty much because the platform overall has been designed to be rather light without a huge resource usage, so Samsung just tried to meet these requirements without going too far in terms of specifications.

The Galaxy Chromebook certainly doesn’t disappoint given it comes with 8GB, which at this point, is more than enough to run Chrome OS and the available apps without any hiccups.

But on the other hand, it’s also not a secret that customers paying that much for a Chromebook expect more, not necessarily in terms of performance, but as far as the specs go.

16GB Chromebook

So Samsung has apparently heard the message and is now preparing a spec upgrade for the Galaxy Chromebook that could add a welcome RAM increase.

A report from Chrome Unboxed points to a commit in the Chromium Repositories that seems to suggest Samsung is working on a 16GB RAM version of the Galaxy Chromebook. Of course, if Samsung increases the RAM on its device, there’s also a chance that some other upgrades might be planned as well, including in the storage department, but for now, this is just something that remains to be seen as no evidence has been discovered in this regard.

In the meantime, what will also be interesting to see is how Samsung plans to position this new Chromebook upgrade. Will the company increase the price even more for the 16GB RAM version or will it discount the existing model and offer better value for the money?

Full information will certainly be shared soon when the new configuration goes live.
