The company wants the headphone jack to return

Apple killed off the headphone jack with the iPhone 7, and since then, more and more companies, both small and large, joined this trend that nobody liked but which eventually everyone learned to live with.

As the world’s number one phone manufacturer, Samsung rapidly noticed the benefits of not having a headphone jack (like the extra space inside), so it made a similar decision for its high-end devices.

As a result, the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lineups both come without a headphone jack, but worry not, Samsung has got you covered. The company has already launched wireless headphones because it’s always a good idea to spend extra than to use the one you already own.

The South Korean firm, however, has been having second doubts about this decision, it seems, so it’s now looking into ways to fix it. At least on its flagship phones, that is.

Experiment possibly happening next year

This is according to leaker Mauri QHD, who says on Twitter that Samsung is currently considering a very risky approach that would have the company bring back the headphone jack for at least one year.

In other words, the company wants its Galaxy S and Note models to feature a headphone jack once again for a year and then see what happens. If everything goes well, the headphone jack could stick around for more generations. If it doesn’t, it goes away completely a year later.

Needless to say, this is a very risky approach, as such changes could affect Samsung’s long-term strategy and at the same time, cause more frustration in its user community.

The whole thing could get the go-ahead beginning with the 2021 generation, but what’s very important to keep in mind is that this is still an idea for the time being and not even Samsung seems to be sure it should go for it.
