Company launches trade-in program for Huawei users

Huawei is no longer allowed to do any business with American companies following an order signed by US President Donald Trump earlier this month, and needless to say, this raises concerns regarding the Chinese tech giant’s long-term mobile plan.

And because some are now planning to move away from Huawei, Samsung is trying to steal as many customers as possible, so it launched a trade-in program that’s specifically aimed at Huawei phone owners.

As reported by Korea Times, the new campaign went live first in Singapore, with the discounts offered to Huawei customers reaching no less than $550 when giving up on a device manufactured by the Chinese firm and buying a Galaxy S10.

Samsung offers $200 extra in trade-in value to Huawei customers, and the promo includes the Chinese tech giant’s latest models like Huawei P20 Pro, Mate 20 Pro and Nova 3i.

Huawei and its Android struggle

At this point, it’s not yet clear if Samsung wants to launch this trade-in program aimed at Huawei customers in other markets as well, but this is very likely given the en-masse migration that most manufacturers expect to see following the restrictions announced by the United States government.

Meanwhile, it’s important to know that while Huawei’s mobile strategy might be uncertain, the company will continue to provide software updates and security patches to existing models already on the market.

According to the order, Huawei can no longer use Android on new devices, but on the other hand, the smartphones that are already on the market will continue to be supported just like before.

The bigger question is whether Huawei can ship Android Q to any of these models or not. Huawei has recently been blocked from the Android Q beta testing program, so it’ll be interesting to see if the company finds a way to release this new OS version at least for its flagships.
