Samsung is reportedly working around the clock to finalize development of its next-generation flagships, as the company wants to bring them to the market earlier than originally projected.

A report from The Korea Herald reveals that one of the reasons for Samsung planning to launch its devices ahead of the original schedule is that sales of the Galaxy S9 have so far been below expectations. By launching new models, Samsung hopes that smartphones sales would recover, especially as it next lineup includes substantially revamped devices.

First and foremost, it’s the new Galaxy Note 9 that will debut with a 6.38-inch OLED panel this summer. Production of screens for this model started in April, two months earlier than before, and the debut is now expected in August, one month earlier than in the case of its predecessor.

The Galaxy S10, which will mark the tenth anniversary of the S series, will see daylight in January at the Consumer Electronics Show. The Galaxy S9, on the other hand, was unveiled in February this year, just ahead of the MWC conference in Barcelona.

S10 to boast in-display fingerprint reader

But Samsung plans to take the wraps off the S10 at CES in order to keep MWC for another unveiling. The company will introduce its first foldable phone in Spain, so it wants to use different events to showcase the devices, as it tries to avoid them cannibalizing each other.

Samsung readies several new features for the Galaxy S10, including a fingerprint sensor integrated into the screen.

“Codenamed as ‘Beyond,’ the 10th edition of Galaxy S series project is underway as Samsung has embarked on discussing adoptions of various new technologies such as in-display fingerprint sensing with its suppliers,” an industry source was quoted as saying by the cited publication.

Production of the foldable smartphone is expected to begin in November, which means that more information and possibly leaks providing us with a closer look at the device should surface in the coming months.
